Cryptology Around the World
I recently read an article that expresses the intentions of a number of universities in London, as well as other universities in that area to further research in the area of cryptology. The University College of London, University of St. Andrews, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, and London's City University will all be working together to explore how cryptology is used today. I found it intriguing that cryptology can be intertwined with the use of ATM's, garage doors, and conveying secret government messages. However, it can also be used for cyber crimes as well as terrorism. I am sure that it would make many cryptologists happy to know that there is still an interest in cryptology among young people in the world today. I am curious to what specifically these universities will discover and can't wait to read more about it!

It's weird to think that cryptology is used all around us every day without us even realizing it. We take our security and safety for granted on a daily basis through mechanisms such as garage codes and ATMs, like you said. In the context of our class, it seems as if cryptography is a thing of the past, but in reality it is more affluent then ever! Where would our society be without codes? Thanks Hayley!
ReplyDeleteBoth the original post and the comment above are quite interesting and thought provoking, and even a bit creepy. It is definitely true that cryptology plays a huge role in peoples' lives today all around the world, as they use it for their own security and hiding things of great value to them. And it can make one think of how people have always gone to such extents to reach those hidden values, and break through security to reach what lies beyond. Before garage codes and things of that sort, they just used picks to open locked doors or spaces. And we hide so much information on the internet, relying on passwords and codes to keep things private, there must be so many hackers out there working on ways to breach them. Maybe in the future people will begin to use all sorts of other things, perhaps like fingerprint or some type of DNA scanners as means of keeping their valuables secure.
